During a press conference Mayor of Lodz - Hanna Zdanowska was given a ready traffic ogranisation plan for Karolew by the representatives of Fenomen Charity. 'We will implement it' she said.

Before the plan was finished, we organised workshops for the residents in order to collect their suggestions with regards to traffic organisation around the estate. We also listened to the youngest - kindergarten workshop.

All suggested amendments are are available in a separate article (click).  The amendments include mostly creating new parking places which will force definite - calmer traffic. Additionally, we managed to find space for bicycle lanes with new traffic marking showing that the road is also space for bicycles and that drivers have to expect to see them. We did not forget about pedestrians. Pedestrian crossings were shortened in order to decrease psychological barrier before accessing them. Special speed bumps will help monitor car speed.

Konferencja prasowa z udziałem prezydent Łodzi Hanny Zdanowskiej oraz przedstawicieli Fundacji FenomenAccording to the Mayor's declarations, implementation of those ideas is to coincide with finishing the W-Z Route - in October 2015. Thanks to co-ordination of the work, part of the costs (painting) will be covered from the W-Z funds. The rest will be covered from specific purpose reserves for increasing traffic safety. The whole estate limited by al. Bandurskiego, Waltera-Janke and ul. Maratońska will become a part of a tempo-30 zone with uncontrolled intersections.

Those planned amendments will bring:

  • 67 new parking places
  • 1 km of road with traffic marking
  • 11 speed bumps (so-called 'poduszki berlińskie')
  • 12 speed bumps (so-called 'progi pinezkowe')
  • 450 metres of bicycle lanes
  • 15 intersections that will become uncontrolled
